On the way back to the ferry after a European touring holiday, wife & I always chat about our eating experiences, and when we're heading for Cherbourg, the best of the holiday is usually Le Ferme du Boucanier in St Suliac. Our last trip was no exception, we've eaten there a few times, and they've never disappointed, not perfect, the service can be offhand and sometimes leaves a little to be desired, but never the food, which is exceptionally good. Last time I had lobster which was perfection on a plate, and a Gewurztraminer dessert which was even better, there must have been half a bottle in there. The best food we've found in northern France, not cheap but worth saving up for, we'll be back!"
